The author’s basic rule of thumb is a minimum of 1,000 rounds of ball ammo for the mainstream calibers like 9mm, 45 ACP, 5.56, 7.62 x 39, 308 Winchester, 12 Gauge and in our case 45 Colt, 30-30 Winchester and 5.7x 28.
